BBFC
The BBFC (British Board Film Classification) is an independent (non-governmental body) media content regulator company that is well known and greatly trusted. They look to guide the public as to what content is suitable for them to watch, therefore protecting people from inappropriate content, in particular young children. They are also constantly keeping up with the changing social attitudes within the public through research and public consultation.
BBFC was first established in 1912, when local authorities began to have their own opinions and views towards the content being shown. Overtime they have gained the trust of Parliament, local authorities and the public by creating judgments on films that were accepted throughout the nation. By the 1920's it became a general acceptance of the local authorities to go along with the BBFC and their classifications.
