I have chosen Brief 2. A promotion package for a new film, to include a trailer, together with the following two options:

•a film magazine front cover, featuring the film;
•a poster for the film.

My evaluation questions are in the tabs above. To present my responses, I have used the following platforms:
question 1: Video annotations
question 2: Prezi

question 3.
Piktochart
question 4.
Emaze

I took charge of the filming for the shot of the ripples of water at the beginning of the trailer, the close up of the knife dragging on the door and the mid shot of the protagonist banning on the door.

We all contributed to the editing of the film and decided as a team when and where to film.

I made a trailer called "PAIN PERDU":

CONSTRUCTION: GREEN SCREEN

In class we learnt how to incorporate using a green screen in to filming for our trailer. We set up the green by using two tripods and a black frame which we hung the green screen from.

We used an iPad to film through an app called Do Ink. We chose to try out putting our protagonist (Molly) next to a window, setting the french scene. All the green background was replaced by the image of the french building and the window. The app worked well and will definitely use it in the future.

PLANNING: MY POSTER

I decided to research other posters for movies that had the drama/thriller theme. when researching these posters I noticed that in many of them they had placed the main character right int the centre of the poster, which clearly is a very effective way to display a poster.

PLANNING: GETTING TO KNOW OUR CHARACTERS

In order to learn more about how to develop my character I read the article called 'Get to Know Your Characters by Giving Them a Questionnaire', written by Charlie Sierra. Here he wrote about what had inspired him in 'Riding the Alligator' by Pen Densham – an Oscar nominated filmmaker with 16 features and over 300 hours of TV under his belt. Pen Densham writes about the importance of developing your characters and getting to know the characters that will be in your film.

Pen Densham suggests that people should create a list of questions to ask the character, so you can get to know who they are and how they behave. Instead of conducting a questionnaire we have decided to use the idea in a way that works better for us, which is to 'hot seat' our character in an interview. We did this in the form of a therapy session where it was set a year after her traumatic experience at her aunty's house. By doing it in this form, it is a lot more relevant to our trailer.

PLANNING: AUDIENCE PROFILE

Audiences are often defined by GEARS, G standing for gender. Having looked at the BFI exit polls of films screened to audiences of some 150 people I notice that films involving action and moderate levels of violence skewed towards a male audience. I think our film trailer will be evenly split between a male and female audience.

I think it is likely that my audience will be predominantly under 35’s. There I and so I would aim to put my tailer before films like Saw, It.

PLANNING: INSPIRATION FOR FILM

I researched different photographs on the internet to help get some more ideas and inspiration for my film trailer. I explored different ideas and put them together.
